Having a background in Early Childhood Education and Psychology, Madonna has been a part of the initial conceptualisation and development of CAFS in 2016. While currently working for our parent organisation -THEME Institute in a research involving integrating mental health into primary healthcare systems in conflict affected Northern Sri Lanka, she continues to support CAFS on a regular basis. While her main focus is currently on social media and content management of the organisation, Madonna is constantly known as the ‘Heart of CAFS’ as she ensures the entire team is on track. This is demonstrated by her contribution in the planning and execution of all awareness campaigns, community outreach activities, supporting research and other collaborative activities carried out by the team.
“Although I was brought up in a community surrounded by individuals who are not very open to understanding the importance of Mental Health and Mental Well-being, CAFS has given me the opportunity to educate myself more about the importance of MH as well as inspire many people around me. It gives me great satisfaction knowing that the work we do is helping someone out there, to take care of their mental health better, understand each other better, and to access services and seek professional support when needed. I believe as a country we still have a long way to go; but CAFS has definitely contributed to the positive change in more people accessing Mental Health Care and Support in Sri Lanka and I’m glad I am a part of it throughout!”
